German Retires With Ankle Injury Ending Impressive Run

Ruud Reaches French Open Final After Zverev Injury

German Retires With Ankle Injury, Ending Impressive Run

Sixth seed Casper Ruud reached his second Grand Slam final after Alexander Zverev was forced to retire from their French Open semi-final due to an ankle injury.

Ruud, 23, was leading 7-6 (8-6) 6-6 when Zverev twisted his ankle at the back of the court and collapsed to the ground in agony.

The Norwegian, who reached the final of the U.S. Open last year, will now face world number one Novak Djokovic in Sunday's final.

Zverev, 25, was aiming to reach his second Grand Slam final, having finished runner-up to Dominic Thiem at the US Open in 2020.

The German had been in impressive form throughout the tournament, but his hopes of a first French Open title were cruelly ended by the injury.

Ruud, who has never won a Grand Slam title, will now be aiming to create history on Sunday by becoming the first Norwegian man to win a major.
